The Internal Medicine Subspecialist Study Program is an advanced level of education from the Internal Medicine Specialist Study Program. This Internal Medicine Subspecialist Study Program produces Internal Medicine Specialists with Subspecialities (according to specialization) with the title SpPD, K-(according to specialization) who have the competence to handle cases of internal medicine that are more difficult, complex, rare and or complicated in accordance with their particularity. This sub-specialist doctor will work throughout the territory of the Republic of Indonesia.

The need for Sub-specialist Doctors (consulting specialists) is still very large, especially in the Eastern Indonesia region, and the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will be enacted in 2025, so Sub-specialist Doctor Profession education is deemed necessary to be opened immediately. So far, subspecialty education is collegium-based and with the enactment of Law number 20 of 2013 concerning Medical Education, all medical study programs must be university-based.

Hasanuddin University answers this probler by opening 1 (one) university-based Internal Medicine Subspecialist Study Program with 7 (seven) specializations incorporated in one study program consisting of:

Metabolic Endocrinology and Diabetes
Gastroenterohepatology
Nephrology and Hypertension
Rheumatology
Medical Oncology Hematology.
Infectious Tropical Diseases
Pulmonology

The combination of 7 specializations in 1 study program is intended to accelerate the process of fulfilling the number of personnel with sub-specialist competency levels both in terms of quantity and quality for the needs of sub-specialist services in Indonesia and to anticipate the implementation of AEC 2025. Internal Medicine Sub-specialist Program is expected to be able to meet these needs and even its graduates able to compete not only at the local, regional and even global levels.
